How MoveToPlay differs from monitoring apps.
MoveToPlay: Earn Screen Time by Duke & Duke is an earn-it app: children earn screen time by moving and doing chores. Qustodio, Google Family Link, Bark and OurPact are parental-control apps that limit or monitor. The table sets the facts side by side. For the other apps, each line is what the company says on its own website, checked on 27 October 2026; where a site doesn’t say, the table says “see their site”. We haven’t tested the other apps, and this is not a ranking.
Side by side
| App | What it does or says |
|---|---|
| Approach: earn, limit or monitor? | |
| MoveToPlay | Earn. Children earn screen time by exercising and doing chores a parent approves; minutes go into a bank that never expires. On an iPhone or iPad a parent can lock chosen apps until time has been earned, using Apple’s Family Controls. The lock is optional. |
| Qustodio | Limit and monitor. It calls itself “the all-in-one parental control and digital wellbeing solution”, with website filtering, alerts, time limits, app blocking and activity reports. |
| Google Family Link | Limit. Google’s parental controls: screen time limits, approval for new apps, blocking sites, and controls on Google services such as Chrome, Play, YouTube and Search. |
| Bark | Monitor and limit. It says its AI scans text, images, video and audio for potential dangers and sends alerts, and that it also manages screen time and blocks websites and apps. |
| OurPact | Limit. It says it is for parents who want limits without constant monitoring: schedules, app blocking and a Screen Time Allowance. A content monitor is also offered (below). |
| Which devices? | |
| MoveToPlay | iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later, plus an Apple Watch app for watchOS 11 or later. The iPad version can also be downloaded from the Mac App Store on an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later. Apple lists it as designed for iPad and not verified for macOS, and Mac use has not been tested by us. Automatic app locking needs an iPhone or iPad. MoveToPlay is an Apple-only app. There is no Android version and nothing on Google Play. |
| Qustodio | Child devices running Windows 10 and later, macOS 10.15 and later, Chromebooks with Google Play, Android 9 and later, iOS 16 and later, and Amazon Kindle (Android 8 or Fire OS 6 and later). Parents use its iOS or Android app, or the web. |
| Google Family Link | Supervises a child’s Android device (6.0 or later), Chromebook (ChromeOS 71 or later) or compatible Fitbit. Google says iPhones, iPads and computers other than Chromebooks can’t be supervised. The parent app runs on Android, on a Chromebook that supports Android apps, or on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16 or later). |
| Bark | iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, computers, Chromebooks and Amazon Fire tablets. It also sells its own phone and watch for children. It says the app is available in the United States, South Africa and Australia. |
| OurPact | iPhones, iPads, Android phones and Android tablets. Its FAQ says that on iOS 26 and later Apple no longer allows its management profile to be locked, so a child can remove it, and that it alerts the parent if that happens. |
| Does it read messages or browsing? | |
| MoveToPlay | No. It can’t see messages, browsing history or what happens in other apps. For the optional lock, a parent picks apps in Apple’s own picker and MoveToPlay receives only Apple’s opaque tokens, so it never sees the app names. |
| Qustodio | It says it tracks browsing and social media, monitors calls and messages, and tracks social messages in some apps. It notes that calls and messages on iOS need a Windows or Mac computer. |
| Google Family Link | Google’s pages describe website restrictions and checking how much time a child spends on certain apps. They don’t say a parent can read messages; see their site. |
| Bark | Yes: “Bark scans texts, 30+ social media apps, browsers, and emails.” On iPhone and iPad, it says full content monitoring of texts and iMessages also needs its Bark Sync charger. |
| OurPact | Its content monitor, on the Premium+ plan, captures screenshots of the child’s device activity. Its web filter blocks harmful content and allows safe sites. |
| Does it track location? | |
| MoveToPlay | No. No location permission, no live location, no location history. |
| Qustodio | Yes. It says parents can check family members’ locations and get alerts when they arrive at or leave saved places. |
| Google Family Link | Yes, for a child’s Android or compatible Fitbit device, as long as the child is carrying it. |
| Bark | Yes. It describes GPS location tracking and location alerts. |
| OurPact | Yes. It describes live location, location history and alerts when a child arrives at or leaves a place. |
| Is an account needed? | |
| MoveToPlay | No account or sign-up. A parent code is set on the device. iCloud is optional and only used to keep a second device in sync. |
| Qustodio | Yes. It asks parents to create a free account. |
| Google Family Link | Yes. Google says the parent and the child each need a Google Account. |
| Bark | Yes. Sign-up asks for an email address and password. |
| OurPact | Yes. Its first setup step is “create your account”. |
| How is it paid for? | |
| MoveToPlay | Free to download, and setup is free. To use the app, a parent starts the Annual or Monthly Family subscription (new subscribers get a 2-week free trial, then it renews unless cancelled in Settings) or buys Lifetime once for $19.99 (US price). |
| Qustodio | A free account with a trial of Premium features; Premium plans are priced by the year. See their site for current prices. |
| Google Family Link | See their site. |
| Bark | A monthly or yearly subscription that covers every child and device in the family, with a 7-day free trial. See their site for current prices. |
| OurPact | Premium and Premium+ plans, billed monthly or yearly, with a 14-day free trial. See their site for current prices. |

Is MoveToPlay a parental-control or monitoring app?
No. MoveToPlay: Earn Screen Time by Duke & Duke is an earn-it app. Children earn screen time by exercising and doing chores a parent approves, and minutes go into a bank that never expires. It can't see messages, browsing history or what happens in other apps, and it doesn't use location. On an iPhone or iPad, a parent can lock chosen apps until time has been earned, using Apple's Family Controls; that lock is optional, and it is a timer, not a usage monitor.
Can I use MoveToPlay alongside one of these apps?
Many families use more than one tool. Give each one a single job, so two apps aren't both trying to decide when the same game unlocks: for example, Apple's Screen Time for schedules and content, another app for monitoring if you want one, and MoveToPlay for earning time. We haven't tested MoveToPlay together with the other apps on this page.
Is MoveToPlay the same as the movetoplay.app Android app?
No. MoveToPlay: Earn Screen Time by Duke & Duke is an Apple-only app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, on the App Store at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/movetoplay-earn-screen-time/id6800042475. It is not connected with the Android app at movetoplay.app, and prices, features or data practices described for that app don't apply to ours.
