What it does
An app that fits a song you own to your competition time and tempo, exactly when the music is long enough. It finds the beats, bars, phrases and sections of the song on your device, suggests finished edits, and exports a file ready to upload.
Pick a time limit from the built-in list, or type your own. Limits for figure skating, gymnastics floor and dressage freestyle are built in, with the rule book named on each one. The length is shown to the tenth of a second. Turn on Land exactly on the target and music that is long enough ends exactly on your time; shorter music stays short unless you repeat a section.
SongShrink suggests up to four finished edits: keep the ending, most energy, smoothest joins, or fade at the time. Each cut prefers a nearby bar line or beat between phrases, and joins are crossfaded by default. Too short? It can repeat a section instead.
Tap sections of the song to keep or drop them. Nudge any cut by a beat or a bar. Reorder, repeat or delete pieces. Build a medley from several songs, with the tempos matched. Undo and redo everything.
Match the music’s tempo to a dressage freestyle, or to any routine that follows a beat. Set the pace of each part: tap along with your horse’s steps, type the steps a minute, or make a part last an exact time such as 0:45. Name the parts Walk, Trot and Canter. SongShrink speeds that part up or slows it down, and warns you when a change may start to sound odd.
Some events, such as USA Gymnastics women’s floor, deduct for lyrics, song or speech. SongShrink shows where singing remains in your edit and can remove vocals on your device with an optional download. Results vary from song to song and some singing can remain, so always listen to the whole file before you compete.
Even loudness, with peaks kept safe for arena sound systems. End on the original ending, a fade or a stop on the beat. Export MP3 (192, 256 or 320 kbps), M4A or WAV, named with the event, athlete and length. Save it or share it.

Privacy
Everything happens on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android device. Music analysis and vocal removal run on the device. Your songs, edits and exported files are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
SongShrink has no account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Duke & Duke receives no data from the app.
Purchases go through Apple or Google Play, and we never see your payment details.

Song files you own: an MP3 you bought, a song from the iTunes Store (on iPhone, iPad and Mac), or a file from your coach or a competition music service. Songs from streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify are copy-protected, so SongShrink can’t import or edit them. The app shows you where to buy song files you can use.
SongShrink helps you edit music you own. You are responsible for any music licences your competition requires.
Vocal removal is an optional download, made by ZFTurbo and released under the MIT licence. On iPhone, iPad and Mac it is about 121 MB from Apple. On Android it is about 120 MB from Google Play.
On Android, vocal removal needs a phone or tablet with at least 5 GB of memory; the app says so before you download.
MP3 export uses the LAME encoder. Its source code is available here.
