LAME source code
SongShrink exports MP3 files with the LAME MP3 encoder. Here is the exact LAME source the app uses, the files and settings it is built with, and how a rebuilt LAME takes the place of the app’s copy.
If you are not a developer
You don’t need anything on this page to use SongShrink. It is here because LAME’s licence asks us to share its source code and the way we build it. Nothing here is SongShrink’s own app code: only LAME’s source and the files that build it.
What LAME is
LAME (“LAME Ain’t an MP3 Encoder”) is a free, open-source MP3 encoder made by The LAME Project. Its website is lame.sourceforge.io.
How SongShrink uses it
SongShrink uses the official, unmodified LAME 4.0 release: the encoder library only, with no decoder and no command-line program. It is a separate library inside the app, so you can replace it:
- iPhone, iPad and Mac:
LameKit.framework(bundle identifierlamekit.LameKit), a separate dynamic framework. - Android:
liblame.so, a separate shared library.
Both are built from the same source. The one file that doesn’t come from LAME is config.h, the build configuration that LAME’s own setup script would otherwise write.
